Mr Midfa was speaking at a breakfast meeting of Expo Centre staff held recently. It was also attended by Mr Fasahat Ali Khan, Advisor to the Chairman and Board of Directors of Expo Centre Sharjah, and Sheikh Azza Al Qassimi, HR and IT Manager.
"Last year was truly remarkable in terms of services provided to exhibitors, shoppers and public. It was the best year in terms of progress achieved, quality of services provided, as well as the modernisation of many facilities in all departments and sections of the Centre,"
Mr Midfa said.
"There was an increase in the number of exhibitions held in 2008 and the diversity of programmes we supported was vast, including sponsorship of many cultural, social, artistic events. Expo Centre hosted over 20 shows in the past year, which were a success by all standards. We also organised numerous conferences, seminars, meetings and economic forums in various fields, which contributed to the sustained movement of trade and promoted the exhibition industry and highlighted its role in the development of various sectors," he said.
Mr Midfa thanked all the staff for their efforts to make 2008 a successful year. He also called upon the staff members to maintain this excellence to help meet the Centre's objectives and goals for the current year and beyond.
He also said that the Centre is planning to organise staff training programmes aimed at acquiring the necessary expertise that better qualifies them for the work.
Expo Centre Sharjah is one of the region's most popular trade exhibition venues, and hosts some of the top-of-the-range, highly focused B2B and B2C shows.
The Centre, the exhibition wing of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is the first established trade fair facility in the country and is considered a pioneer in its field.
