Cavotec MSL's agreement with Doha International Airport includes an entire system of more than 30 pop-up pits - units that emerge from the tarmac when required, and retract flush with the apron surface after use - providing an innovative storage and service integration solution to the aviation facility's requirements.
Commenting on Cavotec MSL's expanding footprint in the Middle East region, Juergen Strommer, Managing Director of Cavotec Middle East, the Group's Dubai-based subsidiary, said:
"Through the series of contracts signed with the New Doha International Airport, we are steadily amplifying our presence and growing our share of the Gulf's airport equipment market. Our position as a leading supplier of sophisticated technologies for a vast range of applications is further consolidated, and we are deeply appreciative to those who have come to trust the Cavotec MSL brand."
Cavotec MSL pop-up pit systems are used for storing such items as 400Hz cables, PCA hoses, potable water hoses, and technical services under the tarmac apron. When the aircraft is in the parking position or maintenance hangar, the pop-up system is deployed and raised to working level. Upon disconnection, Cavotec MSL's pop-up pits automatically retract to surface level. Cavotec MSL's in-ground systems supply aircraft with fuel, power, water and pre-conditioned air, eliminating the need for service vehicles, diesel generators, cables and hoses that typically cover much of the area around parked aircraft.
The global engineering group's contract with Manchester airport for their Airbus A380 stand includes three different types of pit systems, while the New Delhi airport agreement entails 35 vault access covers with supporting equipment. Similar in function to the pop-up pits, these specially designed covers provide access to concrete vaults for operational and maintenance requirements of in-ground pit systems. Deliveries for these separate projects are due to start this month and will run into the rest of 2009.
"Reporting this kind of progress in the current market is certainly encouraging for the company as a whole," says Ottonel Popesco, CEO of Cavotec MSL. "More importantly, it speaks strongly of Cavotec MSL's ability to work according to customer's intricate needs; the New Delhi Airport is the busiest in India and Manchester Airport is the largest airport in the UK outside of London. In Doha, the pop-up pits will be used to service large wide-body aircraft in the world's largest hangars," he concluded.
