A series of presentations were given through the course of the day to educate the visiting students about the programmes offered by RSCI-Bahrain.
The young people were able to experience the teaching facilities of the newly inaugurated RCSI Medical University Bahrain, which was opened by the Prime Minister of Bahrain and the President of Ireland on 3 February 2009.
The university's teaching staff and current students involved the visitors in a range of demonstration medical practicals to give them the experience of studying medicine and nursing. RCSI-Bahrain's internet based teaching system was also demonstrated.
As a wireless campus, RCSI-Bahrain has designed all of its courses to incorporate the latest online teaching techniques, enabling its lap-top enabled students to benefit from world leading standards in medical education.
Students also learned more about life at RCSI-Bahrain and what it has to offer from the wide choice of clubs and societies available, to restaurant facilities, library and sports facilities.
Professor Kevin O'Malley, President of RCSI-Bahrain, said:
"The annual open day is the best opportunity to get a sense of life at RCSI-Bahrain and the academic programmes it has to offer. The day comprises informative talks by our staff and students, who provide information to those who are thinking of pursuing a career in the healthcare sector."
"With the opening of our new campus, students from Bahrain and the region will be able to access a world standard medical education, with access to the some of the world's leading medical practitioners and medical teaching facilities. The GCC region needs more medical specialists and RCSI-Bahrain is investing now to ensure it offers the best quality medical education programmes and facilities in the region." he added.
