"It's essential that we develop in our youth an awareness of their own leadership potential,"
says Feda Shahien, Vice President and Business Development Director of Knowledge Horizon Training Centre.
The Knowledge Horizon VP continues: "It is our responsibility to help our youth become more active and productive members of the community. We need to provide them with a learning environment in which they can develop their leadership abilities to enable them to meet the challenges and opportunities of our global society."
"It is these themes amongst others that I will be exploring when I address the symposium," explains Shahien. "It is an opportunity I am very much looking forward to; I believe it will be a very fruitful event."
Highlighting the priority that Knowledge Horizon is giving to young learners, Shahien details the work that Knowledge Horizon has been conducting over the last few years in conjunction with the University of Cambridge International Examinations. Together they have developed a unique programme for young learners.
"The result is the Youth Leadership Programme (YouLeaP) and it is aimed at developing leadership skills in 10-18 year olds," says Shahien. "We feel youngsters will find it particularly attractive because of it has technology at its core. This age group spends much of its leisure time involved in computer or web-based activities and when they go to school they are back to paper, pen and whiteboards. We feel that by engaging them in a medium with which they are very familiar, and often have very advanced skills, we will be able not only to capture their attention and imagination but also deliver a meaningful and significant learning experience. Knowledge Horizon is excited about the prospect of being able to launch this instructor-led e-Learning Programme in Oman very soon."
