Meed's Kuwait Projects 2009: detailing major project opportunities

With recent instability at a governmental level and the effects of the global economic downturn being felt throughout the entire region, Kuwait has been a challenging place in which to do business in recent months.

As with many other sectors, the Kuwaiti projects sector in particular has been hit by a slump in investor confidence as well as changing market conditions which have led to previously awarded contracts being reviewed and, in the case of Kuwait's Jaber al-Ahmed al Sabah hospital, being retendered (Meed vol. 53 issue 08).

Meed Events' Kuwait Projects 2009 conference taking place on the 29th -31st March 2009 at the Courtyard Marriot Hotel, Kuwait City, Kuwait, will be detailing the current and future project opportunities in Kuwait.

Now in its fifth year, Kuwait Projects 2009 is a key event in Meed's conference calendar and provides delegates an unmatched opportunity for face to face networking with the key players from the projects industry in Kuwait and will be attended by representatives from the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and government Ministries.

Meed Editor Richard Thompson said:
"Kuwait Projects 2009 is the place to gain first hand from the people that matter the latest news and information on the projects that are moving ahead in Kuwait and hear from the people creating the opportunities. Despite recent difficulties, projects are still going ahead in Kuwait. Currently planned projects in Kuwait are worth close to $300bn and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works is to spend a further $51bn on construction by the end of the decade."

Kuwait Projects 2009 will include presentations and panel sessions that will be exploring the potential in Kuwait's oil and gas and power and water sectors, giving an overview of Kuwait's economic outlook; exploring the potential of Kuwait's project market and highlighting major real estate projects and future development plans for Kuwait's civil infrastructure.

Confirmed speakers include Eng. Srour Al-Otaibi, Team Leader, Mega Projects Sector, Kuwait Ministry Of Public Works; Blair Hagkull, Managing Director, Jones Lang La Salle. Mena; Jeff De Lange, Deputy Managing Director, Gulf Consult; Jamal Al Nouri, Managing Director Corporate Planning, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation; Dr Meshan M. Al-Otaibi, Assistant Under Secretary For Planning & Training, Kuwait Ministry Of Electricity And Water and Randa Azar-Khoury, Group Chief Economist, National Bank Of Kuwait who said: "I have been participating in Meed's Kuwait Projects conference series for a number of years and I always find them valuable as they provide the latest information from relevant sources about key future and planned projects. As an economist, it helps crystallise my views and forecasts for the economic and business environment, not to mention developing my network of active players in our market."

Kuwait Projects 2009 will be the ideal forum for anyone who wants to do business, or is already doing business, in Kuwait and the programme includes two pre-conference master classes taking place on March 29th.

'An Introduction to doing business in Kuwait' led by the National Offset Company will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges of doing business in the buoyant Kuwaiti market with a special emphasis on offset projects and 'Contracting strategies for the Kuwait oil and gas sector', led by Trowers and Hamlins, will provide an overview of the current costs situation and provide solutions and strategies for contractors to deal with the reality of the current market.
