  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 24 - 2009 at 13:03
  • PRESS RELEASE

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has introduced a Certificate in Business Management (CBM), an intensive program that can be completed in ten weeks.

"In a changing world affected by an unprecedented economic crisis, institutions of higher learning are challenged to devise innovative solutions," said Professor Rob Whelan, President of UOWD.

"The CBM program is our response to the current market situation that demands new competencies which will boost an individual's employability or self-employment avenues."

Classes for the CBM program will be held weekly on Saturdays, from 9 am to 5.45 pm, at the UOWD Knowledge Village campus. The first batch begins on May 23 and will end on July 25, 2009.

"The UOWD's CBM program has been designed to provide students with the skills necessary to respond to challenges and opportunities of an ever-changing business world,"

said Dr. David Van Over, Dean of Faculty of Business and Management, UOWD.

"It enables students to develop an understanding of general management theory and practice, as well as critical knowledge in different functional areas of a modern business environment."

The short-term CBM program is designed for individuals who are unable to commit to a full two-year MBA program but who need to upgrade their management skills in a short time, ahead of a job switch or a move into setting up their own business.

The CBM program, with a focus on the UAE market, will consist of two modules: Business Operations and Business Management. Business Operations will cover Economics, Accounts, Finance, Project, Supply Chain and Quality Management. Business Management will cover Management and Organizations, Leadership and Human Resources, Marketing and Information Systems and Strategy Management.

A student who successfully completes the CBM program may progress to any postgraduate program at UOWD with two subjects of advanced standing/credit exemption, provided he satisfies UOWD's standard admission requirements. Though there are no admission requirements, English language proficiency equivalent to an IELTS overall score of 6.0 is desirable.
