- Qatar: Tuesday, March 24 - 2009 at 15:33
- PRESS RELEASE
As the community of Qatar rallied together in support of the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) today, Mannai Trading Co. was right at the forefront.
The automobile was auctioned off alongside other high value items, with the proceeds going to the center to aid in the treatment of children with cancer.
"The treatment of cancer, particularly in children, is a universal humanitarian cause and we at Mannai is honored to help out those who are fighting the battle," said Mohammed Helmy, General Manager, "I am told that over 80% of the children who are treated at the center make a full recovery, we decided that we could best contribute to the cause of the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon by letting them have one of our finest premium cars to be auctioned off to the highest bidder."
Renowned London based auction house Christie's was in charge of the auction, which included a variety of premium artifacts and items that catered to the tastes of the guests at the event. The gala dinner was organized under the patronage of His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy & Industry. The event was attended by generous benefactors.
of society, business magnates, opinion leaders and government officials from Qatar and the GCC countries. As part of the festivities, international jazz artist and pianist Guy Manoukian made a charitable guest appearance to wow the crowd with his soulful music in support of CCCL.
The Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon was established in Beirut in April 2002 and has since treated more than 600 young cancer patients from Lebanon as well as other Arab countries including the GCC nations. It is a one of its kind center in the region, offering free preliminary diagnosis and testing to hundreds of children every year as well as comprehensive treatment of pediatric cancers.
As a policy, CCCL does not refuse treatment to any patient. Children who are not covered by insurance or private donors are treated at the expense of the center, making it all the more important for CCCL to raise funds.
"As responsible corporate citizens and as compassionate human beings, we're pleased that our organization could play a part in curing alleviating terrible suffering among children," said Helmy. "We salute the people who are running the Children's Cancer Center, and we'll be here again next year to do everything we can to support them."
