The online portal, which aims to give the media easy access to up-to-date information about Omran's tourism projects, is the first phase of a project to use new methods to connect with the media and the wider community. By placing crucial information about the company and its projects online, Omran aims to give journalists easy access to the details they need around the clock.

Eng. Wael Al Lawati, CEO of Omran, said: "Omran is a fast-growing organisation, backed by the Government and some of the most experienced tourism experts in the region. The media play an extremely important role in allowing us to share and communicate with the community.

"As well as acting as a crucial channel to feed back to the community, the media are also an important way for us to evaluate the success of our activities. I am, therefore, very pleased to announce the launch of our new online media centre, the first in a number of steps we are taking to enhance the ways we talk to Oman's valuable media professionals and the public and local communities they represent."

Information available on the media centre includes factsheets on Omran's projects, details of its joint ventures with leading international development companies, biographies of key personnel, as well as up-to-date images and photography.

The launch of the new media centre follows the development of a detailed stakeholder engagement campaign in partnership with Four Communications, the region's fastest growing independent communications agency, which specialises in Government and community relations in the Gulf.

This campaign will see an increase in Omran's outreach to the community, in addition to the valuable activities it already carries out. These include informal Community Days such as that recently held at Wudam Al Sahil near the Asian Beach Games site in Musannah, and a number of environmental awareness initiatives in association with the Environment Society of Oman and other partners.

About Omran

Omran is the Government of Oman's tourism development and investment arm. It was established in 2005 with a mandate to develop the infrastructure and facilities required to expand the country's existing tourism industry. This is in support of the Government's plan to develop tourism as a major national industry by 2020.

Omran aims to capitalise on the unrivalled natural scenery, the year-round sunshine, and the rich heritage of Oman in order to diversify the economy and offer new opportunities to the Omani people. In doing so, Omran helps to promote Oman as a unique Middle Eastern destination.

This includes large-scale tourism projects which take advantage of the company's development expertise. Omran is currently involved in developing more than 10 resort-style projects with a project value in excess of USD $10 billion. Specific projects include new resort villas, conference facilities, leisure resorts, golf courses and hotels as well as the refurbishment of some of the major existing international hotels.

In its developments, Omran puts the needs of the local and national Omani community first, striving to work in an environmentally, ecologically and socially responsible manner.
