Six Senses Spa at Sharq Village and Spa powers down for climate change

Six Senses Spa at Sharq Village and Spa will participate in Earth Hour 2009, a global environmental awareness event organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) aimed at raising awareness about climate change and global warming.

The Six Senses Spa at Sharq Village & Spa will demonstrate its continued commitment to environmental responsibility by turning all lights and non-essential electricity off in favour of candle-lit treatment rooms and relaxation areas between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Saturday March 28.

"Six Senses is committed to sustainable practice and environmental responsibility, from our use of locally sourced water and produce, environmentally-conscious suppliers and encouragement of the reduction, reuse and recycle of consumable items within the Spa. Earth Hour is an important opportunity to generate awareness amongst our guests, hosts and the general public when it comes to committing to reducing our carbon footprint on this planet." Six Senses Spa, Doha Director Marteyne van Well commented.

Earth Hour is a global movement in which tens of millions of people around the world come together to demonstrate their concern about climate change by turning off their lights for one hour.

Van Well added, "Six Senses core purpose is to create innovative and enlightening experiences that rejuvenate our guests' love of Slow Life. The reduction of our carbon footprints is a prime component of Slow Life. We encourage all business to take part in Earth Hour 2009 and show their support for the environment. From Sydney in 2007, to Doha in 2009, if we all contribute in any way we can, we will demonstrates together that each person can make a difference in the fight against climate change."

Six Senses Spa, Doha is part of a wider network of Six Senses Resorts and Spas, including Six Senses Hideaway Zighy Bay, Oman and the newly-opened Evason Ma'in Hot Springs and Six Senses Spa, Jordan who form part of the 16 Six Senses properties who are participating in the Earth Hour initiative for 2009.
