Dubai Airports to join the Earth Hour campaign

Lighting in select areas across Dubai International will be switched off for 60 minutes starting from 08.30pm.

The campaign will not cover essential facilities and important areas within the airport to ensure safety and security and smooth continuity of normal operations.

Commenting on the Earth Hour campaign, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said that as an initiative that is gaining world-wide popularity, it will make people stop and think about the impact individual contribution can have on environment.

"It's a great opportunity for organisations to take their environmental commitment to a new level by encouraging their staff to participate. Our participation in the campaign is not limited to the airport's premises, as we are calling on our employees to be part of the Earth Hour wherever they are - whether at office or their homes," he said.

He added that Dubai International's participation will spread the message of energy conservation far and wide as thousands of passengers from across the world pass through the airport everyday.

The areas at Dubai International that will be part of the hour-long campaign include all duty free stores in Terminals 1, 2 and 3 (including concourses), car parks in Terminals 1 & 2, and all food outlets - where candle-lit dinner will be served during the hour. All non-essential and decorative lighting at the airport, both indoors and outdoors will also be switched off from 830pm and 930pm.
