The conference was hosted at the college's deanship in Baghdad University for three consecutive days as of March 24th 2009, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Abd Dhiyab al-Ajili, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq.
Itisaluna has undertaken this sponsorship in an effort to promote activities in science that will further enhance students' scientific capabilities and help build a brighter future for Iraq, both on the scientific and practical levels. As Itisaluna's official spokesperson noted in a statement to the press,
"We at Itisaluna view any effort of benefit to Iraq as a fundamental national duty. Our sole purpose behind this sponsorship, and many others, was to elevate the name of Iraq, a country which was at the peak of scientific and cultural advancement in the Arab world."
It is worth noting that the College of Science at Baghdad University was founded in 1949 on the 27th of March, and the specific date thereafter was named Iraq's national "Science Day". The College comprises departments of chemistry, physics, mathematics, animal science, botany, geology, computer science, astronomy, and biotechnology, and has contributed considerably to furnishing the country's various sectors with excelling and qualified human resources.
This initiative comes in light of a series of other contributions Itisaluna has rendered on various occasions and to unlimited sectors of the Iraqi society, such as its sponsorship for the Annual Festival of the Union of Arab Journalists, and the dispensation of more than 3,000 charity packages to families of martyrs and the less fortunate living in Iraq.
