His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak said:
"The success of an educational practice depends on how updated and interactive it is on the local and international front in all fields. Our synergy with DMI will allow us to provide a platform for students who have the aptitude to stay on par with the UAE's phenomenal pace of development. It will particularly serve to motivate national students to join the media industry and pursue a career in the field of broadcasting."
He added: "I would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for his ongoing support to all industries and fields in the UAE, especially in the media and educational domains. I would like to also express my appreciation for DMI's initiative to adopt local talent and shape them with adequate industry experience that will eventually contribute to serving the UAE. DMI's endeavour to inspire UAE nationals to work in the media is a strong step and testifies the strategy of responsible journalism that they uphold"
By the agreement, the human and logistical capabilities in the Higher Colleges of Technology will be utilised for the production of a bouquet of television programmes in association with DMI. Among the highlights of this line-up will be a major cultural programme that will be launched by the Sama Dubai channel.
Ahmed Al Sheikh said: "The agreement demonstrates DMI's commitment to attracting top talent from university students in the UAE and to help them identify their niche interests. It also allows us to engage them in the media production processes and introduce them to the work environment in the broadcasting industry.
"The participation of the students in such programmes will offer them insights into the dynamic nature of broadcast journalism and its varied techniques. We believe this agreement will act as a key avenue to unleash the creative energies of our national students in the field of media."
The agreement stipulates the Higher Colleges of Technology to provide suitable locations for the filming and production of proposed television programmes, including the colleges' theatres and on campus studios. Furthermore, HCT students will be nominated to participate in the programmes based on their academic majors and skills, within the boundaries of DMI's regulations. The media undergraduates will also be given a chance to try their hands in filming promotional breaks and related programmes, if required.
Dr. Tayyeb Kamali said: "This cooperation between HCT and DMI is very valuable as it opens up opportunities for students to utilize DMI's resources and learn from them. HCT is fully committed to endorsing excellence and quality standards, and equipping graduates with qualifications that will help them participate in the ongoing development of the UAE and the region comes as part of our holistic mission. I would like to thank DMI for its ongoing cooperation with HCT. We will work hard to achieve the best results out of this agreement and make it a huge success."
The memorandum of cooperation mandates DMI to be responsible for building the studio sets, provide lighting, special sound, and graphic effects for the proposed programmes, in addition to facilitating the camera crew. The supervision process of other components such as directing, editing, and production of mutually approved programmes will also be provided by DMI.
The activities of Higher Colleges of Technology will exclusively be covered on DMI's various channels, mostly by Sama Dubai, to highlight updates on the evolving education landscape in the UAE.
