'Make The Switch' to expand after registering sales of over 150,000 Illume Energy Efficient Bulbs

Building on the campaign's remarkable progress to date towards conserving the country's energy resources and reducing its per capita carbon footprint, Ecobility has expanded the 'Make the Switch' initiative to include additional retail outlets.

Starting this week, the Illume twin pack can be found for the same subsidized price of at all LuLu Outlets, Sharaf DG Stores, Union Co-op Stores as well as the Abela Superstore in Abu Dhabi - making it easier for residents across the UAE to make the switch.

Since its nationwide roll out in November 2008, 'Make the Switch' has drawn the participation of a large number of UAE residents keen to support Ecobility's long term strategy of reducing energy consumption by adopting simple lifestyle changes.

Karim Aly, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Ecobility said, "The response to 'Make the Switch' has been inspirational. Reaching this milestone is truly something that we should all be proud of as residents of the UAE."

"Annually, we have collectively reduced electricity consumption by over 16 million kilowatt hours (kWh). The CO2 emissions prevented by the campaign so far will amount to over 43,000 tonnes, the equivalent of taking approximately 8,300 cars off the road," he added.

"This early success is encouraging as we advance towards our ultimate aim of converting 1,000,000 bulbs in the UAE. I believe for the first time, we have effectively demonstrated how easy it is to make a significant impact by collectively embracing a single simple step," Karim Aly said.

Illume Energy efficient Bulbs consume about one fifth of the power of incandescent bulbs, last 10 times longer and emit 70% less heat, leading to less power usage for air-conditioning - an especially attractive characteristic during the coming summer months.

Given the UAE's unfaltering demand for high quality products, Ecobility has developed Illume Bulbs to replicate the same colour of light as incandescent bulbs and last substantially longer than other energy efficient bulbs currently available on the market.

The 'Make the Switch' initiative is being championed by several generous partners and supporters who have wholeheartedly embraced the cause. It is anchored by Nakheel, which is subsidizing the price of the light bulbs to help UAE residents 'Make the Switch'.
