Accor Hospitality expands economy room market share in Dubai

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, March 30 - 2009 at 10:33
  • PRESS RELEASE

Accor's sixth hotel in Dubai will add 480 rooms to the market, boosting potential to promote the city as a destination for visitors on a budget, whether travelling for business or leisure.

The opening of the Ibis Al Barsha on March 31st will initiate the third hotel Ibis & Novotel cluster for Accor in Dubai, following its development of midscale and budget properties at the Dubai World Trade Centre and the City Centre in Deira.

Located on the Sheikh Zayed Road close to the business hubs of Internet City, Media City and Jebel Ali Free Zone, as well as the Mall of the Emirates and the Jumeirah beachfront, the Ibis Al Barsha will be the first of five Accor properties in the area and aims to serve both business and leisure travellers; offering year-round value pricing as well as the superior facilities and services expected by visitors to Dubai.

According to General Manager Philippe Montaubin, the hotel has a long-term strategy to boost visitor markets that dovetails with the current move to discount rates prevalent in the city: "At Ibis Al Barsha, we are launching with a brand promise to deliver economy rates year round, not just for a few months."

The hotel expects to cover all markets with appeal to business travelers cutting costs as well as families traveling to Dubai for shopping or a city break, plus stopover and other group business.

The hotel has 378 double rooms, 100 twin-bed rooms and two special needs rooms across six floors, many of the rooms are interconnected and suitable for families, while all will feature IDD telephones, satellite flat screen TV, high speed Internet and WiFi connections, as well as 24-hour laundry service and an all day snack service.

Other facilities include WIFI in lobby and public areas, underground car park, free safety deposit boxes at reception, complimentary scheduled airport shuttle service, plus a variety of dining options including the 'Baharat' restaurant, an international buffet service with flavours of the Mediterranean, the Arab world and the Orient; the 24-hour Café Bonjour; for live music and a vibrant but cozy ambience the 'Casa Latina' Latin Cigar-Bar, and a convenient chill-out venue at the 'Madison' Bar completes the selection.

"The '15 minutes satisfaction contract' is the illustration of Ibis' concrete commitment to quality. If a customer reports a problem which is the hotel's responsibility, the teams are committed to finding a solution within 15 minutes maximum, 24 hours a day; every day of the week. If no solution is found, the client is invited," added Philippe Montaubin.

Christophe Landais, Managing Director Accor Hospitality Middle East comments, "Ibis Al Barsha Hotel is a strategic milestone and part of a planned network of 19 Ibis hotels in the Middle East: 3 Ibis hotels with 1,230 rooms are currently in operation (two in UAE, one in Kuwait) and 16 Ibis hotels with 3,535 rooms are under development in UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman and Pakistan, of which 6 Ibis hotels with 1,273 rooms are set to open by 2011."

"In Dubai, we plan a total of 16 Accor hotels: 7 are operational and 9 are under construction. Aside from Ibis, we have other existing brands such as Novotel, and under development are Sofitel, Suitehotel and Pullman. Our group has an extensive portfolio of hotel brands from economy to upper-upscale to cater to all segments of the market," Landais added.

Accor Hospitality Middle East will have a total of 65 hotels throughout the Middle East, of which 26 are operational and 39 are under development.
