Two of Oman's leading shopping malls, Muscat City Centre and Qurum City Centre, switched off their exterior lights on March 28 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm as part of Earth Hour 2009, the world's largest campaign to draw attention to global warming.

The malls joined hands with seven other Majid Al Futtaim Group malls in the Middle East and North Africa to support sustainability and environmental initiatives to combat climate change, including Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Sharjah City Centre and Ajman City Centre in UAE, Alexandria City Centre and Maadi City Centre in Egypt and Bahrain City Centre.

It is the second year that the Majid Al Futtaim Group malls have played a part in Earth Hour, which has become a symbol of global concern for the future of the planet.

Shahram Shamsaee, Senior Vice President - Shopping Malls for Majid Al Futtaim Properties said,

"The most important aspect of Earth Hour is that it draws attention to the problems we all face in the future and keeps us focused on how we can all play our part. The Majid Al Futtaim Group has an enormous respect for the environment and we make every effort to ensure that we are a socially responsible corporation with awareness and consideration for our surroundings."
