DTCM participates in Careers UAE 2009

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Minister of Finance and Deputy Ruler of Dubai, visited the stand of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) at the 7th Emirates Career Fair at Hall Number 4 of Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center which concludes on March 31.

Mariam Al Maeeni, DTCM Director of HR, briefed him about various initiatives of DTCM to attract more UAE nationals take up employment with the DTCM and the emirate's robust tourism industry.

She informed Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid about the SMART and Adaat programmes pursued by the DTCM to better the professional knowledge and expertise of its employees.

About the Emiratisation at the DTCM, she said 81 per cent of all the DTCM employees were UAE nationals and 80% of managerial and supervisory jobs being done by the UAE nationals.

The department, she said, conducted 69 training programmes for the DTCM employees during the year 2008. As many as 68 UAE national students of higher secondary schools and colleges took up summer training programme at the DTCM during the same year.

The three-day event is organized by the Dubai World Trade Centre in cooperation with National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia), Emirates National Development Program (ENDP), Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Zayed University and the UAE University.

Mariam briefed the audience about the programmes being conducted in cooperation with the Dubai e-Government. She said the department aggressively pursues programmes that help the Emirati employees gain meaningful expertise in their professions and thereby enhance value to the tourism industry and Dubai branding.

DTCM along with Jebel Ali Hotels and Resorts, Emaar Hospitality Group and Hyatt International Hotels Group, distributed promotional literature and vouchers to the employees who participated in the competition. Several Dubai hospitality industry organizations including Emaar Hospitality Group, Hyatt International Hotels, Jebel Ali Hotel and Resort, Accor, Dusit Dubai and Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) participated at the DTCM Stand.
