ITA joined the Annual Serious eGames Conference

The Information Technology Authority of Oman joined the IT hub of the Sultanate at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) to host the Annual Serious eGames conference.

This Annual event is held under the patronage of HE. Eng. Ali bin Masoud bin Ali Al Sunaidy, Minister of sports affairs.

With regard to ITA's involvement,

"ITA is keen to expose the potentials and opportunities offered by the gaming industry for various sectors of the society like education, tourism, healthcare, industry and business. It is also about making the digital society awareness of the trends and developments in the field of simulations and virtual worlds which offer a plethora of training grounds. We believe that this event forged successful partnerships among the academia and industry by which successful business model emerge which both ITA and KOM are keen to nurture"

This year's eGames conference considered the applications of serious gaming to heritage & culture, tourism and branding. Leading experts from Europe and the US presented a range of digital media and communications technologies, showcasing the use of advanced and innovative technologies to enrich Oman's heritage and culture, tourism and branding experience and make it globally accessible to the widest audience.

This event made significant impacts amongst the youth of the modern generation who are in to console games, mobile gaming, blogs, peer to peer networks (P2P) and digital media. Serious games technology has applications in training surgeons, entrepreneurs, teachers, etc and creating virtual worlds for tourism and promotional activities. This year's Serious eGaming conference networked professional from both the local and international industry and academia.

The eminent speakers presented viable and real-life solutions and case study implementations using the virtual world applications such as Second Life, 3D visualization, Mashups, etc.
