Sheikh Saud inaugurates new geriatric hospital in RAK

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, inaugurated the Obaidallah Geriatric Hospital here today in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Humaid Mohammed Obeid Al Qattami, UAE Minister of Health, other sheikhs and dignitaries.

The construction of the 126- bed hospital was financed by philanthropic businessman, Mohammed Ibrahim Obaidallah. The hospital will be run by the UAE Ministry of Health which has furnished the hospital with state-of-the-art medical facilities.

Sheikh Saud toured the various sections of the hospital and was briefed by the health ministry officials about the facilities available. He also met with the patients and enquired about their health and the treatment received at the hospital.

Sheikh Saud said that the new hospital would make available quality healthcare to the elderly in Ras Al Khaimah and contribute to Ras Al Khaimah's drive to establish a world-class healthcare infrastructure in the emirate. Sheikh Saud also lauded Mohammed Ibrahim Obaidallah for his help in setting up the hospital.

Sheikh Saud presented the Qasimi Medal of the Second Order to Mohammed Ibrahim Obaidallah in recognition of his charitable and humanitarian initiatives at a function held at the Al Dhait Palace later.

Obaidallah said that he was very honoured to receive the Qasimi Medal. "The hospital project for the elderly has been a cause dear to my heart and I consider this venture as an opportunity to help and support the people of my country," he added.

Besides providing specialised geriatric care, the hospital would also serve as homecare centre for the aged people in the emirate.

The hospital, built at a cost of Dhs24m, has 36 double rooms and nine wards apart from well equipped laboratory, intensive care unit, blood bank and physiotherapy facilities spread over a total area of 90,000 square feet. It also has a spacious reception area and is equipped with own pharmacy, laboratory and radiology department.

Also present at the function were Sheikh Omar bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Ruler's Private Affairs Department, Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the RAK Finance Department and RAK Free Trade Zone, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Customs and Ports Department, Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Advisor to the RAK Ruler, Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Civil Aviation, Sheikh Mohammed bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Vice Chairman of RAK Economic Development Department, other sheikhs and senior officials.
