Korea's first Astronaut Dr. Yi So-yeon to speak at Map Middle East

GIS Development, the organiser of Map Middle East 2009, is pleased to announce that South Korea' s first astronaut Dr. Yi So-yeon has agreed to attend and deliver a special address at Map Middle East 2009, the 5th Annual Middle East Conference and Exhibition on Geospatial Information, Technology and Applications.

The upcoming conference - scheduled for April 26 - 28, 2009 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center - will address various issues related to the theme "Geospatial @ Work".

At the conference will be highlighted the latest trends in the geospatial technology and the applications and utilities of geospatial information in different fields will also be showcased.

Sanjay Kumar, the Chief Executive Officer of GIS Development, said:

About Dr. Yi So-yeon:

Dr. Yi So-yeon (born June 2, 1978) is a South Korean scient ist and Ph.D. graduate of KAIST (Korea Advanced Inst itute of Science and Technology). On April 8, 2008, she became the first Korean and the second Asian woman to fly in space, after Chiaki Mukai of Japan.
