Leading humanitarians meet in Dubai

Under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD 2009) commence at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

DIHAD 2009 is the largest humanitarian event in the Middle East, attended by key decision makers, procurement and logistics officials from leading international, regional & local NGOs, UN Agencies, Governmental Departments and international associations.

DIHAD 2009 consists of components which are part of an integrated concept that takes account of the latest trends and developments with the global assistance domain. It includes a high profile conference, an exhibition and interactive training sessions, which locates DIHAD way beyond any other traditional humanitarian exhibition.

Each year DIHAD carries a new theme which underscores the event's specific focus and direction. In its sixth edition, DIHAD 2009 is held under the theme 'Empowering Communities: From Disaster to Development'. DIHAD Conference is held under the theme 'Empowering Communities: From Disaster to Development', and comprises of five significant meetings tackling world's major humanitarian challenges, and with the participant of World's leading humanitarians whom are participating in the sessions, among them; H.E. Bekele Geleta Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Honorable Rudy Salles, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and Vice-President of the French Parliament, Mr. Abdullah Al Nameh Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Charity and with the participation of AC Milan's star Clarence Seedorf.

The sessions will highlight the current situation in Gaza and how to face the challenges imposed during this period of time; the sessions will also discuss climate change, food crisis and the world's current financial crisis.

DIHAD 2009 hosts interactive pre-conference workshops on Monday April 6th during which participants can gain extra knowledge of how the international humanitarian system works, and facilitators can learn from the breadth of participants' experience.

The pre conference is organized by UN OCHA, and will be hosting top humanitarian leaders of the UN and other executives form humanitarian and relief organisations, that will share their expertise and present the lessons learnt through their experience.

They will also discuss issues such as coordinating among different development institution and world's aid regulations. Participants will be granted a certificate of attendance at the end of the workshop.

DIHAD rank as the first Humanitarian and relief exhibition and conference world wide, that attracts the attention of all humanitarian organisations and personnel specialised in this field. DIHAD is also considered the largest gathering for humanitarian specialists and a great opportunity for decision makers, representatives, executives of the humanitarian field, NGO's, UN, Charities, donors, and manufacturers of human aid products to meet and learn from the best.

More than three hundred companies representing governmental and non governmental organisations, charity organisations, healthcare sector, medical equipment suppliers and temporary hospitals, clothing & protection food manufacturers, emergency food pharmaceuticals and drugs sanitation, hygiene equipment providers, solar energy systems and products, temporary housing and shelter Security services, engineering & Environmental solutions, additional to traders, manufacturers, and distributors are participating in DIHAD 2009, with 20% increase in participation compared to last year.

DIHAD Conference and Exhibition is held for the sixth consecutive year in Dubai - the United Arab Emirates. In its sixth edition DIHAD aims at contributing effectively in humanitarian issues facing communities through exchange views and researches.
