The Arab Capital of Culture initiative is a programme by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to promote Arab Culture and international cooperation in the region. Jerusalem follows on from Damascus in Syria which was the 2008 Capital of Culture.
