Third Annual Scientific Quality Congress, Middle East 2009 continues its activities

The Third Annual Scientific Quality Congress, Middle East 2009 continues its activities for the second day with large national and international participation by experts, young executives and individuals interested in the field of excellence and Quality Management.

The second day discussed issues such as sustainable development strategies, global financial crisis and competition through innovation.

The first day of the Conference tackled the issue of Total Quality implementations in the UAE, where the debate highlighted the importance of quality to measure the success of institutions and organizations.

Commenting, Mr. Shawqi Sajwani from Dubai Holding said:
"Total Quality Management implementation in the UAE began in 1999, when the Dubai Quality Group was established, this group came specifically to maintain the level of quality in Dubai. Since then Quality is being practiced in all public sectors and major organizations in the Emirate."


The second day of the conference witnessed sessions conducted by the veterans in the field of Excellence and Total Quality Management, such as Mr. Robert Cole, that held the presentation: Quality Reputation, Hard to Achieve, Hard to Lose and Still Harder to Win Back, and Mr. Gopal K Kanji that discussed strategies for sustainable development of business excellence, and Mr. Paul West, that tackled the best practices of the Virtual University and its Transnational Qualifications Framework.

On another note, and within the framework of this congress, the Virtual Executive Club (VEC) at Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University organized the "Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award" Ceremony last night, the winners for this year were: Mr. Salem Khamis Al-Shair Director-General of the General Information Authority for the category: Exceptional Leaders, and Mrs. Nashwa Al Ruwaini Executive Director, Pyramedia for the category: women leaders, and Ms. Falestine Aqel Healthcare specialist, The Dubai Health Authority for the category: Rising Star.

The Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award honors individuals for their exemplary leadership and their management approach, and urges organizations to adopt the concept of quality within their work environment. It also promotes growth and increases competitiveness by stimulating the institutional leadership model. This award encourages behavioral mental growth, which builds successful and effective leaders at all levels.

The Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award is named after Dr. Armand Val Feigenbaum, President and CEO of General Systems Company. Dr. Feigenbaum's considerable experience in the field of leadership and management has led to the design, installation and implementation of proprietary management operating systems to generate greatly improved results in many of the major manufacturing and services companies throughout the world.

Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University is organizing this congress in partnership with Berkley University, The International Academy for Quality Association IAQ, and Middle East Quality Association, and under the platinum sponsorship of DEWA, the golden sponsorship of Damas, the Silver sponsorship of Emirates NBD and Department of tourism and commerce Marketing, and in the support of Dubai International Academic City, SUKAD, enPark and Zarca interactive.
