  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, April 09 - 2009 at 16:55
  • PRESS RELEASE

Lootah BCGas, leading science and technology service provider, demonstrated a new 'Localisation' technology that is set to revolutionise Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in the region.

The new system known as 'HiMoNN' (Highly Mobile Network Node) is a secure broadband communication system using 'Wireless Local Area Network' (WLAN). Localisation is done by using WLAN access points as radio reference points and determining the position of a WLAN tag in relation to different access points. Positions of tags can also be visualized on various maps. A live demonstration of this technology was given at one of Lootah BCGas's construction sites on Thursday, April 9th, 2009.

Dan Danesh, General Manager, S.S. Lootah International explained,

"The new system exemplifies S.S. Lootah's trend of bringing innovation and technology to the region, that contribute to enhancing social and environmental sustainability. Our tie-up with iABG is in keeping with our strategy to bring expertise in knowledge based sectors to the region through world-class partnerships. HSE is a prime concern for most industries today and Lootah BCGas hopes to contribute to this in a big way."

Thomas Sichert, Director, iABG) said," We are very happy to be partnering with Lootah BCGas in bringing this technology to the region, demonstrating the UAE's willingness to embrace new trends and technologies. The new system is set to revolutionise HSE especially in construction and public safety and the UAE is sure to lead the way for more such state-of-the-art systems to be deployed in the region."

The key applications of the 'HiMoNN Localisation System' are in resource management, personal safety, access detection in secured zones, theft protection through alarm activation and increasing efficiency of logistical processes. The system helps track movement of vehicles and other valuable resources within a work site, monitor workers in dangerous work areas and detect unauthorised people in secured areas, among others.

The deployment of this system could be in any large project involving high manpower, resources and mobility such as construction, chemicals, utilities and public safety. The system will benefit public safety and emergency response by allowing the users to activate emergency calls at any time. The visual maps will provide rescue teams with a clear understanding of the situation and enable immediate and effective action.
