Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak inaugurates Insight Dubai Conference at Dubai Women's College

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), inaugurated the annual Insight Dubai conference at Dubai Women's College (DWC).

The 5-day conference, which focuses on women empowerment in the Arab world, brings together around one hundred Emirati and international students to discuss and exchange knowledge on women issues.

Organized for the fifth time, Insight Dubai aims at expanding participants' global awareness regarding differing views on selected women's issues and exploring Arabic governance structures and legal systems.

The interactive style of the conference also allows its participants to dispel cultural myths about women and facilitate lasting bonds and networks between conference participants through academic, cultural and entertainment experiences.

Getting the chance to spend a significant amount of time engaged in meaningful discussions about leadership and global issues with women from over 30 countries results in a new way of seeing the world and building lifelong bridges between cultures."

International students from Italy, Afghanistan, Rwanda, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, Palestine, France, USA, Poland, Germany, Zimbabwi, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Australia, Latvia, Kenya, Mexico, Lebanon, and Nepal participated in Insight Dubai this year.

Insight Dubai participants will interact in a large variety of activities including taking part in a simulated United Nations Security Council crisis as a foreign diplomat, playing a role in Sharia Court case, and acting as a member in a Majlis discussing an important global issue. Other activities consists of panel discussions of local issues such as leadership of women in the Middle East in general and the UAE in particular.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the local environment through visiting the Islamic Art Exhibition at Emirate Palace, the Zayed Grand Mosque, the Federal National Council, and the Heritage Village.

The program also includes several contributions by Arab women leaders such as Najla Al-Awadhi, Member of the Federal National Council, Lana Nusseibeh, Director of Research and Communications, Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, Nayla Al Khaja, Film Producer/Director , Afra Al Basti, Executive Director of the Dubai Foundation for Women and children, Dr. Buthaina Al-Shunnar, surgeon, Amina Taher , Executive Director of Corporate Communications Zabeel Investments, Dr. Houriya Kazim, Maya Hojeij, a Business News presenter at Al Arabiya News Channel, Dina Saleh, a Researcher and Entrepreneur, Noor Sweid, Managing Director of Strategy at Depa United Group, and Samira Gargash, Advocate and Legal Consultant.
