The goal of the conference is to provide students with practical demonstrations of how maths can enhance their problem-solving and critical thinking, and to show teachers ways to integrate maths and critical thinking instruction.
A highlight this year will be a visit from HE Sheikh Nahayan, who will deliver a speech in the College's Emirates Hall at 10 AM on Thursday, 23 April.
The conference's keynote speaker is Oxford University's Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science and Professor of Mathematics, Marcus du Sautoy. Professor du Sautoy wrote a best-selling popular mathematics book, The Music of the Primes.
He also wrote and presented a recent series for BBC television, The Story of Maths. Professor du Sautoy is one of the world's foremost communicators on the subject of maths. Other presenters at this year's conference include distinguished educators Dr. Hanan Ayoub Innabi; Dr. Ken Beatty; Jon Orthman; Nora Ni Neachtain; and Nancy Fahnestock.
"This event will be an excellent opportunity for HCT faculty to focus on critical thinking. Taking maths from the classroom into real life helps students retain what they learn, and we're very glad Dr. du Sautoy and others are here to help us achieve that more effectively."
said Dr. Bradley Cook, ADWC's Director.
