  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, April 19 - 2009 at 14:29
  • PRESS RELEASE

The graduation ceremony of the Professional Development (PD) sessions conducted by the Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) was held on April 16 at The Monarch Dubai - Excelsior.

45 attendees who completed the recently conducted PD sessions on Change Management and Influencing Skills received a certificate of participation at the ceremony.

The PD sessions are in line with the DWE's strategic goal to develop leadership qualities among working women in the UAE by providing world-class training aimed at enhancing the individual performance and career development of working women.

The 2009 sessions focused on Change Management - defining change, leading change and responding to change in an organization; and Influencing Skills - dealing with workplace politics, negotiation skills and techniques to influence people.

The two sessions were conducted by Management and Executive trainer Lorraine Clemes (Ed.D), and Margaret Hart, a member of the International Coach Federation, CoachesCanada and an expert on Change Management.

Aisha Al Suwaidi, Director- Women Leadership Development said:
"Our trainers shared a wealth of experience with the participants over the course of the two PD sessions. We are positive the sessions on Change Management and Influencing Skills were effective in strengthening the leadership qualities and management skills of the attendees."

The PD sessions, which were launched in 2008, are based on the results of a survey conducted among working women in Dubai in 2008 that highlighted 9 areas that women need to focus on to build up leadership qualities in their professional lives.

The sessions help women deal with issues in these areas and have so far covered a number of pertinent work-related topics, including the identification and discussion of problems related to personality dimensions and group dynamics, setting boundaries and dealing with diversity issues in the work place.

According to Moaza Al Serkal, Senior Manager - Women leadership Development: "The sessions provided an opportunity for participants to network with other working women, share their own experiences and learn from the experiences of others. The PD sessions reinforced the DWE's commitment to supporting the professional growth of women by equipping them with the skills necessary to deal with various issues that they face in the workplace."
