Diyar Al Muharraq introduces revolutionary environmental monitoring and management system

Diyar Al Muharraq, one of Bahrain's largest mixed-use master-planned projects, and a leading environmental developer, is the first project in the GCC to commission and adopt an online environmental management system as part of its Environmental Management Plan (EMP).

The system has been designed and implemented specifically for Diyar Al Muharraq by global design and engineering consultancy Scott Wilson Group, who specialise in providing sustainable and integrated planning for projects in the natural environment.

Environmental monitoring stations strategically placed around Diyar Al Muharraq's reclamation area provide specialized computer programs with a steady stream of data for comparative analysis against the set quality assurance standards and regulations. In the case of any breach, the system informs the operators and concerned regulatory bodies for immediate action.

Aaref Hejres, Diyar Al Muharraq's CEO, said:
"One of the aspects that truly set Diyar Al Muharraq apart is our solid commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. As such, we partnered with some of the world's leading organizations who we know are committed to raising the bar for the necessary environmental measures essential for a project of this magnitude. We have had much interest from both Parliament and the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain for initiatives like DIANA, which are being adopted for the first time through Diyar Al Muharraq."

Justine Carr, Head of Environment Division at Scott Wilson, commented, "Due to the size of Diyar Al Muharraq and the complex nature of its dredging and reclamation works, Scott Wilson recognises the need for such a system to provide real time environmental monitoring and management. We feel it is fitting that such an environmentally conscious developer will serve as the first forum for DIANA, which so far has proven to be a resounding success."

With 30,000 properties planned housing for over 120,000 people, Diyar Al Muharraq's construction is moving at a brisk fast pace with reclamation of phase 1 nearing 97% completion. The development will offer a selection of freehold properties accessible to buyers across various income levels, and its extensive and varied indoor and outdoor leisure, commercial and retail facilities underpinned by world-class infrastructure will open up a new way of living for residents, and indeed all the people of Bahrain.
