BIC and Gulf Air launch online racing game

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), together with Gulf Air - the Bahrain Grand Prix title sponsor and the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain - have today launched a fantastic online motor-racing game as the countdown begins 2009 Formula OneTM Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix taking place from 24 to 26 April.

Set at the Bahrain International Circuit, 'Bahrain Racer - The Grand Prix Edition', gives the vast and growing online community the chance to race around four different BIC tracks, including the famous Sakhir Grand Prix circuit, and, even choose the racing colours of their own individual car before taking the starting grid.

The game is hosted at www.bahrainracer.com and all those, who play it will be given the opportunity to enter a prize draw. The lucky winner will receive an invitation for two to visit the Kingdom of Bahrain, courtesy Gulf Air, and spend an afternoon as a guest of BIC at their ultra-modern Sakhir Grand Prix circuit. By using the 'send to a friend' facility, gamers may not only be able to pass on to their friends and family the opportunity to win this terrific prize, but also try and outscore each other on the Highest Score Chart in their very own championship battle.

Gulf Air Chief Executive Björn Näf said, "Gulf Air has been the proud title sponsor of the Bahrain Grand Prix ever since the first historic race was held in April 2004. We are delighted to partner BIC in developing this new online racing game. It places us at the forefront of an innovative marketing initiative that will enhance our title sponsorship and add to the success of an event which brings immense benefits to Bahrain's economy."

"The Grand Prix has become a firm favourite among fans from all over the world and Gulf Air is proud to have brought so many first-time visitors to Bahrain to watch the race and to enjoy the many other world-class facilities the country has to offer," he concluded.

BIC Chief Executive Martin Whitaker said, "We are really excited to be launching this online racing game. It is our first foray into the world of viral marketing and we have high hopes that Bahrain Racer will become one of the most popular online games of the moment and create a real buzz around the 2009 Formula OneTM Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix."

He continued, "We believe the game can be enjoyed by everyone, not just the petrol-heads among us, and reinforce Bahrain International Circuit as the home of motorsport in the Middle East."

As well as making its way 'virally' around the world via the 'send to a friend' option, Bahrain Racer will be seeded on to popular online gaming websites inviting people to play the game.

About Gulf Air
Founded in 1950, Gulf Air is the proud national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Having been operating for over half a Century, it ranks as one of the oldest airlines in the Middle East region. Though it continually strives to develop; its goal has remained unchanged - to maintain a constant commitment to the latest aviation technology and an adherence to traditional Arabian hospitality. It is currently owned by Bahrain Mumtalakat Holdings Company.

One of the prime motives of the carrier is to link Bahrain to the GCC as well as connect it to the rest of the world. The airline's network stretches from Europe to Asia, connecting 41 cities in 27 countries, with a current fleet consisting of 32 aircraft. Renown for its direct network to its non-stop flights schedules, Gulf Air covers the Middle East, the Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

The airline's business strategy is to re-fleet itself over the next five years to further strengthen its presence and continue its aim to become the carrier of choice. It recently signed a deal with Boeing worth nearly $6bn to purchase up to 24 Boeing 787 aircraft, and another deal with Airbus for 35 aircraft, including A320s and A330s.

Gulf Air is the Official Airline and Sponsor of the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2009 and London based football club Queens Park Rangers.
