Mobil1 participates with Toyota Egypt in Hisham Nessim's record crossing of the Great Sand Sea

Mr. Nessim travelled across more than 600km of the Western Desert, crossing the Great Sand Sea - which is considered one of the most difficult natural obstacles on the planet.

It was during one of his numerous journeys across Egypt's deserts that Hisham Nessim first dreamt of joining the exclusive club of Guinness Record holders, and he began considering the possibility of having an Arab achieve in desert endurance racing, a bold idea since Egypt has never had any participants in this sport.

Over the 600km race, Mobil1 performed admirably and Hisham Nessim was free from worrying about this area in his journey, especially since he had already tested Mobil1 over 1400km across the desert for continuous hours and in harsh weather where the temperature was even higher than the average for that time of year.

His journey started north of the Gilf el Kebir area at the Siwa Oasis and lasted for five and a half hours. Mobil1 was a vital aid to the Toyota FJ Cruiser that Mr Nessim was driving, enabling him to keep the car's engine at maximum power and RPM for the entire five and a half hours as well as driving for more than three hours at an average speed of 140 km/h.

As further proof of Mobil1's pioneering role in engine lubricants, samples of the Mobil 1 used were taken after the race and tested, with results showing that the journey did not have an adverse affect on the oil's lubrication capabilities even after a journey of over 2000 km (the initial testing phase of 1400km as well as the actual 600km journey itself), and that the oil was in fact suitable for a number of other such journeys.

We had to increase the size of our wheels in order to cope with the rough surface and dunes we were driving over, which increases the strain on the engine as well on the drive belts and makes driving vertically even more challenging.
