- PRESS RELEASE
Non-profit organization Bicharaf has concluded Business Ethics Roundtable discussions with leading businesses in Beirut, Lebanon.
Bicharaf, which translates to 'with honor' in Arabic, is a national business ethics and academic integrity initiative, designed to raise ethical awareness among students, faculty, administrators, and business professionals.
In a roundtable that took place on February 26 at the American University of Beirut, business leaders analyzed ethical behavior within four quadrants: Legal / Illegal and Ethical / Unethical. They then shared their personal experiences and provided detailed recommendations for how companies in the region can foster an ethical environment in the workplace.
Maya Rafii Zaatari, Human Resource Senior Manager at Deloitte & Touche Middle East, notes that she had the opportunity to listen to how others tackle business ethics issues at their companies. "I was also able to contribute by sharing Deloitte's innovative ways of promoting ethical principles internally; these help shape people's actions, while allowing them to view different perspectives."
Company representatives attended from Bayt.com, Business Unlimited, Deloitte & Touche Middle East, Ernst & Young, IDM, Lebanese Ministry of Economy & Trade, MEFOSA, Procter & Gamble, Roadster Diner, and White Mountain Technologies.
Bicharaf was established in 2004 by Dr. Tony Feghali at the American University of Beirut in an effort to create academic integrity awareness and improved business ethics. Bicharaf functions through partnerships with businesses and schools, with more than 87 partnerships with schools and more than seven partnerships with businesses so far.
Bicharaf is supported by the American University of Beirut, AMIDEAST, Arope Insurance, Azadea Group, Blom Bank, GS, Proctor & Gamble, USAID, and White Mountain Technologies.
