In his speech during the conference, Mr. George Haddad highlighted the importance of this campaign, saying:
"Traffic accidents ranked third in the list of causes of death in the Kingdom. In light of this fact, at Al-Markazia we believe we have a duty to help raise traffic awareness, in order to impact the behavior of individuals towards more responsibility on the roads."
"The campaign aims to help achieve a highly important national objective; increasing public awareness of road safety issues. The campaign "Anta Muraqab" is a reward for drivers who adhere to the instructions of safety on the roads, contributing through abiding by the rules to safer roads in Jordan."
For his part, Colonel Emad Al-Hajarat, Director of the Jordan Traffic Institute, expressed his delight for this cooperation and said: "Taking action to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the Kingdom is a patriotic issue, very much needed to diminish this serious problem. It is our duty in the Institute to cooperate with and support the private sector in raising the level of awareness among drivers of vehicles in Jordan".
He added: "We appreciate the efforts of Al-Markazia in launching this campaign, and we are confident that this is only the beginning of a long-term partnership for a very good cause."
Colonel Al-Hajarat also pointed out that "Anta Muraqab" campaign targets all drivers of all vehicle categories in various regions of the Kingdom. He said the campaign will include many messages directed to drivers and passengers, such as reminding them to conform to traffic signs, wear the seatbelt, and not use the phone while driving.
On the other hand, Mr. Haitham Jweinat, Deputy City Manager, at the Greater Amman Municipality, commented on the campaign: "Traffic awareness is a major official and public concern, it has become a national issue affecting every member of the community, we at the Greater Amman Municipality support and encourage all the initiatives that deal with this issue to help reduce road fatality and ensure safe city for everyone."
Haddad pointed out that Jordan Traffic Institute had a major role in the implementation of the competition from the beginning, where it was the party who came up with implementation plan, and the criteria of selecting the nominees, as the idea of the campaign was developed after many meetings between the three parties in order to come up with a substantial campaign that will make a real difference in Jordanian streets, side by side with the various official efforts in this regard.
According to Al-Hajarat the competition has different stages, starting with the selection of one specific car by committees that includes representatives from Al-Markazia and the Jordan Traffic Institute, whom they will follow for a period of time to monitor the driver's abidance.
Should the driver commit any kind of traffic violation, another car will be pursued, once a driver shows commitment to the rules, his/her car will be stopped, the requirements and instructions will be explained and he/she will be informed that he entered the draw on a Toyota Yaris car.
Haddad concluded by saying: "Traffic safety is one of the most important issues affecting our society today, and dealing with it is a collective responsibility in which the private sector plays a key role through spreading traffic awareness among individuals and promoting the laws of a civilized traffic culture."
