It will take over the operation of Bahrain International Airport from the Civil Aviation Affairs department of the Government of Bahrain.

The creation of BAC forms an integral part of a master plan for the strategic development of Bahrain's economy.

The master plan - Vision 2030 - is sponsored by the Economic Development Board of Bahrain and aims to make 'Business-friendly' Bahrain the premier business hub in the Gulf.

Trowers & Hamlins will be advising BAC on a diverse range of matters, including the structural overhaul, commercial re-alignment and expansion of Bahrain International Airport.

The expansion and redevelopment project will ultimately allow Bahrain International Airport to more than treble passenger numbers from around 9 million to 28 million, while increasing the number of gates at the Airport by 500%. It will also include a range of retail and leisure facilities.

Trowers & Hamlins was appointed following a competitive tendering process.

Abdul-Haq Mohammed, relationship partner for BAC, comments:
"We are delighted to have been appointed by Bahrain Airport Company. This is a project of tremendous strategic importance and we look forward to assisting Bahrain Airport Company in their creation of a world-class aviation hub."

Dr Osama Al-'Aali, Chief Executive Officer of BAC, says, "This project is especially significant for the economy of Bahrain. It will require professional advisors with international standards of expertise. We believe that Trowers & Hamlins has an excellent track record for executing major projects in Bahrain and elsewhere in the region. We are pleased to have them on board."
