In a meeting held today with key agencies and stakeholders, including Etihad Airways and other local and international carriers, ADAC discussed and agreed on the steps and measures to be taken to ensure coordinated implementation of its risk management plan, if and when advised by the health authorities.

According to Ahmad Al Haddabi, Senior Vice President of Airport Operations at ADAC, the plan is designed to minimize the risk associated with the virus across all Abu Dhabi airports, including Abu Dhabi and Al Ain International Airports.

In line with the highest health and safety standards, ADAC has put in place all the required technologies and expertise on-site to assess potentially infected passengers, which if required, would be regulated by the Department of Health and other associated health authorities.

Haddabi says:

"Readiness measures include isolating aircraft where necessary, dealing with high risk passengers or passengers found with high temperatures and directing them to designated areas for further assessment and observation"

ADAC will also co-ordinate with airlines and other parties on procedures to assist and provide information to the friends and relatives of passengers who may be affected.

About Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC)

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) is a public joint-stock company wholly owned by the Abu Dhabi Government. It was incorporated by Amiri Decree number 5, issued on 4 March 2006, to spearhead the development of the Emirate's aviation infrastructure.

In September 2006, ADAC took over responsibility for the operation and management of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain international Airports. In 2008, ADAC added Al Bateen private jet airport, formerly Al Bateen military airbase, and Sir Baniyas and Delma Island Airports to its portfolio. These airports all serve different segments of the marketplace and help contribute to Abu Dhabi's development as a destination for both business and leisure tourism.

Currently under way is the large scale Dhs25 $6.8bn re-development and expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport designed to increase the overall capacity of the airport to more than 20m passengers per year. As part of this redevelopment, a second runway and a third terminal have been completed. A new ATC tower and Midfield Terminal Complex will complete the redevelopment within the next few years.
