Review: The Address, Downtown Burj Dubai
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, April 28 - 2009 at 17:20
The Address hotel is one if the most visible buildings on the Business Bay skyline, situated next to the Dubai Mall and the city's Old Town district, and Burj Dubai. It is also the flagship of the Address hotels, which include the Palace Old town, the Address Dubai Mall and the Address Dubai Marina.
The hotel has 196 rooms, all between the seventh and twelfth floors, with the majority of the rest of the building given over to serviced apartments (although these are accessed via separate lifts).
Because it caters to business travellers, and as such has guests arriving throughout the day, the hotel has implemented one particularly innovative policy to help it stand out in a crowded market - guests can check out 24 hours from the time at which they check into the hotel.
So those arriving at 8.00pm are able to stay in their rooms until 8.00pm the following day, and not being rushed out of our room at midday to clear the way for the next visitors helped to make our stay much more relaxing!
The guest rooms are divided into Deluxe, Premier, Grand, Club Premier, Club Grand and the Suites - with each of the latter three categories allowing access to the Club lounge, which hosts a quiet area with its own sundeck, business facilities and various complimentary meal and drink options throughout the day.
The room sizes begin at 55 square metres and go all the way up to 200 square metres for the Tower Suite, with most hovering between 70 square metres and 85 square metres, which provide ample space for anybody visiting singly or in couples, with even the Club Premier rooms being the size of a self-contained one bedroom apartment.
The hotel has a range of food and drink outlets, as these cater to the apartments as well as the hotel guests. Fazaris and Hukama are the main restaurants, with the latter being the hotel's signature Chinese dining option, but there are also a range of other restaurant-cum-bars, each of which offers its own style of cuisine.
Neos, a bar located on the 63rd floor of the building, offers amazing panoramic views across Dubai to the sea, and should be visited at least once, even if you are not a hotel guest. The view is a definite highlight, but unfortunately the actual bar is somewhat let down by extremely slow service, despite not being overly busy, a certain aloofness from the waiting staff and an overly 'smokey' atmosphere.
It should be said, however, that this was the only place where we felt like this, as the hotel employees in every other section, from the check-in desk, through room service to the hotel's other restaurants, were uniformly smiling, friendly and professional and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The 'personal touch' was especially evident, as a forthcoming birthday was noticed by check-in agents when we presented our passports and a surprise cake was secretly arranged!
Among its other offerings the Address has a luxury spa, next door to the fitness centre, which offers guests a range of treatments lasting from half an hour to two hours, with nine massage rooms (including one for couples), a hair and nail studio and steam rooms and saunas. The spa is also has separate areas for men and women's treatments.
