DTCM Director General Khalid A. bin Sualyem, pleased with the achievement said that Dubai has registered outstanding over all growth in the tourism sector. "This is a great accomplishment for the emirate especially keeping in view with the fact that world tourism had suffered a setback after the events of September 11, 2001. Dubai with its focused and well planned marketing strategies both regional as well as international, has emerged triumphant, successfully defying the world wide slump and the results are for everyone to see," said Mr. bin Sulayem.

He stated that besides being one of the most frequented destinations, Dubai is also one of the safest places in the world. "The emirate caters to the requirements of visitors from all the corners of the world. Dubai's state-of-the art infrastructure and facilities as well as the varied activities it offers are hard to find in any other place," he said.

The number of 2002 hotel establishment guests reached 4,756,280 with an increase of 31.15 per cent over the year 2001 where the number was 3,626,625. "Through our strategy of marketing Dubai internationally as well regionally, we have achieved this enormous growth. While many countries either registered a downward trend or showed a slow increase, Dubai cruised ahead with full force," said Mr. bin Sulayem.
