At the start of the meeting, H.H.Sheikh Humaid Al Nuaimi, presented a brief outline of the stages the University has experienced during its twenty-one years and the accomplishments it has achieved that are aligned with the comprehensive development that the United Arab Emirates is witnessing under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the U.A.E. and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, U.A.E. Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
H.H. said:
"One of Allah's greatest blessings to this country is its leaders who have invested in human capital, firmly believing that investment in people is the surest way to achieve development and ensure a more prosperous and stable future."
He also congratulated Dr. Saeed Salman, President of the University, on his achievements and efforts of turning the University into a "distinguished edifice of knowledge of which we are proud of in Ajman."
He added, "The Board of Trustees have a great responsibility for supporting the continuity and development of this University as a leading institution in higher education within and outside the U.A.E. I am sure that every member of this Board will fulfill his role in the best of ways to achieve the desired goals."
Dr. Saeed Salman, President of the University, expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, for the constant support and insightful instructions he generously offered to the University since its inception in 1988 until its current status as a high quality institution of higher education. Dr. Salman also praised H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and Thamer Salman for their laudable efforts to hold this meeting.
H.H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi expressed his satisfaction with the achievements of the University, adding that he met with AUST graduates in many places and saw their significant success within and outside the U.A.E.
He also pointed out that the establishment of Ajman University of Science and Technology was an added value in the field of higher education in the United Arab Emirates, as the first private institution of higher education, commending the support given by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
H.H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi expressed his gratitude to all the members of the Board of Trustees of the University who came from within and outside the U.A.E., saying that their long and rich experience in the field of higher education will certainly benefit the University both in the present and future.
The members of the Board discussed and approved the regulations of the Board of Trustees and then they adopted the Policies of the University. They also reviewed the University's Strategic Plan and approved the estimated budget for the academic year of 2009-2010. The members of the Board, chaired by His Highness, approved the lists of the University students of the academic year 2007-2008, who will be graduating on Wednesday and Thursday, April 29-30.
H.H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi concluded the meeting by thanking the members of the Board of Trustees; complimenting particularly those who came from outside of the U.A.E. He reiterated his praise to Dr. Saeed Salman and his team for their dedication to their work and services to both locals and residents.
