- United Arab Emirates: Monday, March 10 - 2003 at 14:29
- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing's (DTCM) press office at the Dubai Desert Classic successfully fulfilled its role of a vital source of information for local, regional and international media during the four-day event.
Out of 130 scribes, about 70 journalists are from local media and 60 are from United States, United Kingdom, India, Japan, Australia, South Africa, France, Finland and Denmark. "The press office also had studios where players were interviewed live," added Mr. bin Beyat.
He noted that a US based agency covering the event puts the news on their website before feeding it to selected 3,000 sports journalists world-wide. "This shows about the magnitude of the event and international focus the event is receiving. In turn, such happenings help in popularizing the destination with our press office acting as a base to promote and highlight the activities, amenities and services of the emirate," said Mr. bin Beyat.
In order to provide more information about Dubai, DTCM brochures were distributed among journalists. At the closing ceremony, the scribes witnessed Ayalla, a UAE traditional dance. In addition, the department also organised a city tour for the media. "Such familiarisations help in generating more publicity, which in turn helps popularizing the destination," added Mr. bin Beyat.
