Standard Chartered Bank's Emiratisation plan takes off at Career Fair
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 11 - 2003 at 10:31
- PRESS RELEASE
Emirati nationals keen to pursue a career in banking flocked to Standard Chartered Bank's stand at the Fifth National Career Fair, held in Expo Sharjah from March 2-5th.
Standard Chartered Bank UAE has made a strong commitment, in line with UAE government directives, to hit a target of 30% Emiratisation by the end of 2003, and the Career Fair is a great recruitment opportunity, according to Saleha Omair Al Bakri, Emiratisation, Planning and Development Manager, Standard Chartered Bank.
"We have had a great deal of interest from a wide cross section of Emiratis. There is a host of benefits for employees at Standard Chartered Bank. We are looking to recruit people at all levels in all departments, but they have to have the right aptitude, attitude and commitment to pursue a career rather than just get a job," said Al Bakri.
Applications for employment placed at the fair are reviewed by the Emiratisation team before potential applicants are called for examination. An interview follows, with successful candidates being kept on file until a suitable vacancy arises.
Standard Chartered Bank offers a high level of on-the-job training; opportunities for funded part-time higher education; family medical cover, competitive salaries and opportunities to work abroad.
More than 50 companies, including local and foreign banks, government departments and free zones, took part in the four-day event, organised by the Human Resources Development Committee, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies.
"It is fitting for us that this career event is held in Sharjah, where Standard Chartered's 30 year history in the UAE began," commented Standard Chartered Bank's UAE CEO, Ray Ferguson.
During the event, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah, presented Mohammed Abdullah Al Sayyah, Head of Administration, Gulf and Levant and Emiratisation, Standard Chartered Bank, UAE, with a long service award. Al Sayyah has worked for Standard Chartered Bank UAE for more than 25 years.
