Six Senses Spas signs agreement with Al Bustan Palace InterContinental Muscat

Six Senses Spas has officially signed a partnership agreement to operate a world-class spa at the Al Bustan Palace InterContinental Muscat.

Set amongst Oman's Hajjar Mountains and adjacent to the property's palatial grounds, the spa boasts spectacular ocean and mountain views.

The design of the Six Senses Spa sets a new dimension and was created by Six Senses in conjunction with Bangkok-based interior designers - P49 Design, and architects Febraur. The inspiration for the architecture came from traditional Omani and Islamic architecture, complementing the exterior and interior style of the Al Bustan Palace InterContinental Muscat, immersing guests in an enriching local setting.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with such an iconic property. Six Senses Spa at Al Bustan Palace InterContinental will undoubtedly be one of our signature facilities, worldwide," said Bernhard Bohnenberger, Managing Director of Six Senses Resorts & Spas. "We will offer our signature Six Senses treatments as well as treatments that have been carefully developed by our training and menu development department using traditional Omani rituals and local products. Guest will leave the spa feeling refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated. This is our promise."

The Six Senses Spa, with an area of more than 3,500 square metres, is set over two floors and will include 16 treatment rooms, gentlemen and ladies private facilities and a Ladies Only Club featuring a private beach accessible only from the club. It will also feature a private gym, relaxation spaces and temperature controlled swimming pool plus a combination of wet, dry and hammam treatment rooms.

Amongst the special features are cave treatment rooms, a meditation cave room and couples treatment rooms with colour and sound therapy bath tubs. The public areas of the spa include a yoga pavilion, consultation rooms and a beach club for spa guests, which will be separate from the hotel and ladies club.

A general relaxation area features regular and majalis style seating. Also included are communal spaces for manicure and pedicure, a fresh juice bar and more private areas such as sound pods in which guests can cocoon themselves with music and lighting.

"A world-class spa offering was the missing element for the Al Bustan Palace InterContinental Muscat," said Tony Zamora, IHG. "When the plans for the renovation phase were first being put in place, we made sure that a premium spa would be included to guarantee a complete resort experience. The property's idyllic setting is simply perfect."

The design of the spa features Falaj's that are flowing through the spa, together with aromas of essential oils. The spa itself is built on a wadi, which in season will provide a close link to nature. Changing rooms feature regular and infrared saunas, plus steam and traditional barbering services for men. In addition there are relaxation spaces with heat experiences of hot stone seats.

Some of the treatments that will be available include a Six Senses Slow Life menu (Sustainable- Local-Organic-Wholesome Learning-Inspiring-Fun-Experiences). With this menu section the spa concentrates on treatments where the produces are local, ideally coming from a radius of 30 km, or less. Each of these treatments is unique to the spa.

Therapy menu development will include traditional Omani rituals transformed into spa treatments together with the Six Senses signature spa treatments. Each treatment can be individualised to cater to individual guest's needs for a rewarding experience. The treatments will be administered by skilled, experienced therapists who embrace Six Senses Spas' Balancing Senses philosophy, which is founded on that belief that the spa experience may only be achieved once all five senses have been nurtured.

The Six Senses Spa at Al Bustan Palace Intercontinental Muscat Oman is expected to officially open by mid 2011.
