Jumeirah Group says hotel occupancy remains high
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, May 03 - 2009 at 13:32
Jumeirah Group is experiencing high occupancy levels at its hotels despite the economic downturn, but it has had to offer rate discounts at all its properties - with the exception of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai - to compete with companies that have slashed their rates, said Gerald Lawless, executive chairman of Jumeirah Group.
Still, occupancy rates remain high at Jumeirah Group, including one property in the company's portfolio that achieved 96.5% occupancy in April, Lawless said today on a panel at the Arabian Hotel Investment Conference in Dubai.
The biggest challenge the company faces is that it has more hotels in its pipeline than it has in operation, Lawless said. Of the new projects that are in development, some have been slowed but none have been postponed.
