KHDA stops Gems raising fees on 'unfinished' school
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, May 03 - 2009 at 15:24
The Gems Dubai-based school at the centre of a recent parental backlash after hiking school fees 90% has complained, after it was told it could not raise prices because the school has not yet been finished.
The KHDA said that continuing construction highlighted that Gems had not fulfilled the conditions to raise rates. Gems disagrees and said the KHDA's decision was 'flawed and inconsistent'.
A Gems spokesman complained: 'It is particularly important to us that this inconsistent and unfair behaviour does not continue unchecked."
In a thinly veiled threat over the school's future, Gems said it would 'reassess the viability' of running it if the decision is not changed.
