Johnson Controls bags $7.95m order in Kuwait.
The order is valued at $7.95m. The company will supply 6 YORK branded YK - K7 water-cooled centrifugal chillers to be installed at the Doha West Power Station in Kuwait.

Doha West power generation and water distillation station is one of the main base load plants in Kuwait. This power station is situated approximately 15 km to the west of Kuwait city. Doha West power station is capable of generating 2400 MW of electric power and producing 110m imperial gallon of distilled water per day.

"Our chillers offer the highest operating efficiencies in the market and contribute to building a more comfortable, safe and sustainable world. Manufactured at Johnson Controls facility in San Antonio Texas, the chillers will be installed in a series counter-flow configuration which will yield an additional 6% gain in efficiency"

said Qais Saad, Johnson Controls country manager for Kuwait.

He added. "With a total combined capacity of 14,502 TR, at peak operating conditions, the use of sea water for condenser cooling will save about 45,618 gallons per minute of treated water and the energy that would have been spent in treating the water. Our YORK chillers will result in a cost effective solution for the end user, and a lower carbon footprint", said Saad.

"We see this as a continuation of the trend of using seawater as cooling water for large tonnage cooling projects in the Middle East region. Johnson Controls has the most suitable equipment for such applications, and we expect to gain a leading position in this potentially fast growing market segment," said K.R. Sankaran, regional manager, Northern Gulf. "In 2008 we played a pioneering role by securing a record breaking order for 18 sea water cooled chillers from Unicorp International Contracting WLL Bahrain, for the Bahrain Bay utilities project," he added.
This chiller order comes from Gulf Group for Mechanical and Electrical Works.

Mr. Adnan Awad, the General Manager of Gulf Group said, "Like Johnson Controls, Gulf Group is committed to sustainable development. We propose and implement technology that is environmentally friendly and cost effective. The selection of YORK® chillers came about after detailed and rigorous technical evaluation and comparison among the manufacturers of such type of chillers".

Higher operating efficiencies and product durability; A clear win for environmental sustainability.

- Johnson Controls YORK chillers are high efficiency chillers and use environmentally friendly, non-ozone-depleting HFC-134a refrigerant.
- The use of titanium tubes permits the use of sea water for heat rejection. Other chillers using sweet water cooling towers for heat rejection could have consumed up to 45,618 gallons per minute of sweet water.
- Titanium is highly resistant to both erosion and corrosion. This facilitates the use of internally enhanced high performance tubes and permits water to be circulated at high velocities through the tubes resulting in greater heat transfer and higher operating efficiencies.
- The Johnson Controls YORK chiller will operate at extreme entering condenser water temperatures that would cause many other makes of chillers to shut down.
