ITA board of directors meet

The Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Oman held its board meeting under the auspices of H.E. Mohammed Nasser Al-Khasibi, Chairman of ITA on the 3rd May 2009.

The minutes of the earlier board meeting held on the 21st of March was reviewed in this meeting and approved.

This was followed by an update on the program review of the Community IT Training program (CITT). The main objective of the CITT undertaken by ITA is to train citizens of the community on IT basic skills in order to reduce IT illiteracy and to bridge the digital divide.

In order to realize these objectives, ITA is currently establishing several Community Knowledge Centers in different parts of the Sultanate. Each CKC will be equipped with the required computing and communication equipments and furnishings.

This was followed by an update of the Government IT Training program which has already commenced to train and certify over 93000 civil staff in digital literacy. This program aims to build capacity within the public sector employees in using Information and Communication Technology to realize his majesty's vision of building human resource capacity of the Sultanate.

Presentations about key projects of ITA such as the Government e-Services Portal and the ICT incubation Initiative were presented for the board's review. The meeting ended with a note of thanks by the Chairman of the ITA board.
