An Emirates Post delegation, led by Mr. Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director General of Emirates Post, took part in the exhibition. The Emirates Post booth showcased the best of stamps issued by the UAE since the last 100 years.
Ibrahim Bin Karam, CEO of Emirates Post, said:
"Global events like the World Stamp Exhibition present a unique platform to highlight not only the stamps but the culture and history of a country."
"The visitors who came to the UAE stand not only showed great interest in the stamps, but also asked questions about our country. We believe by participating in such events we boost the general efforts to raise the status and reputation of our country," he added.
Along with Emirates Post, the Emirates Philatelic Association also took part in the show as well as in the competition. Several UAE collections won special awards, medals and certificates in the competition.
"The fact that all 84 members of FIP took part in the exhibition underscores the success of the event," said Joseph Wolff, the FIP President at the opening ceremony of the exhibition venue.
Philately organizations brought collections of more than 3,200 framed stamps, among them 80 frames of world-renowned stamps, including the "Penny Black" from the British royal family collection, the world's first postage stamp issued in 1840.
The exhibition also hosted an international conference and an auction of rare stamps. About 1,000 stamp dealers took part in the exhibition.
The event was held in the two-storey new hall of Luoyang Museum, with a total floor area of 42,000 square meters. The next World Stamp Exhibition will be held in South Africa in 2010.
