Opening by March 2010, Universal Studios Singapore will be among a collection of attractions at Resorts World at Sentosa, a family destination which hopes to beckon Middle Eastern travelers to its shores for their holidays.

Fully owned and operated by the Genting Group, which also runs Genting Highlands in Malaysia, Resorts World at Sentosa is currently being developed at a cost of SGD6.59bn (Dhs16.19bn).

Participating for the first time at the Arabian Travel Market, under the Singapore Tourism Board's pavilion, the Resort will be showcasing its mega attractions and hotel rooms, which are designed with families in mind.

RWS Vice President of Resort Sales, Ms Shirly Chen said:

'The economic downturn has led to delays and halts in many global projects. Universal Studios Singapore, however, is going full steam ahead, together with the other attractions at Resorts World. When opened early next year, Universal Studios Singapore will be one of the largest theme parks in the world in terms of attractions. Middle Eastern vacationers will neither have to wait nor travel far for their ride-the-movie experience.'

A first in Southeast Asia, Universal Studios Singapore will have 24 rides and attractions, 18 of which are brand-new or specially redesigned for Singapore. Thrill-seekers and movie buffs can look forward to brand new rides such as Transformers, as well as popular favorites like The Revenge of the Mummy and the Waterworld stunt show.

Ms Chen added: "The number of visitors from Middle East to Singapore showed strong growth last year, and continues to show positive growth in the first two months of 2009. With blockbuster family attractions, great entertainment and unique hotel rooms, we believe RWS will appeal very much to visitors from the Middle East."

Besides Universal Studios Singapore, Resorts World will also have the world's largest oceanarium - Marine Life Park - a maritime museum, and a wide variety of dining outlets and restaurants, including one offering Middle Eastern cuisine.

The group also has a sales representative office in the United Arab Emirates to promote the Resort in the Gulf region.

An entertainment hub where the action never stops, the Resort also has a whole host of entertainment and public performances ranging from a spectacular acrobatic resident show to a multimedia laser show and other roving performances.

Committed to delivering a world-class experience to all our visitors, the Resort has engaged many internationally renowned consultants and partners. Working closely with Resorts World are its architects Michael Graves and Associates as well as renowned Singapore-based DP Architects, whose projects include the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Marina Mall and Hotel Apartments.
