On Time, On Budget:
Cobham customers know that their support service requirements will be met on time and to budget on a continuing basis. Delivered at multiple locations Cobham's fully regulated and approved solutions maximise the performance systems capability of its customers.
Cobham is a key supplier to UK MoD and defence primes. Operating within the military environment at a range of establishments, Cobham applies best commercial practises, often integrating with incumbent military and civilian workforces for either output-based or availability-based contracting as part of a through-life support management plan.
Supporting Air Traffic Control Service:
Cobham's Air Traffic Management system (the RDS1600) is in use at 120 military and civilian sites across the globe. Military customers benefit from a solution which forms an integral part of their air defence strategy both at home and in theatre. It includes the ability to identify, track, control and intercept both cooperating and non-cooperating targets whether in the air or on the ground. Civil sector customers benefit from the optimisation of air traffic movement, both on the approach and on the ground, reducing congestion and maximising the airport's profitability.
Delivering and managing systems for our high profile customers across a large geographic area who expects low through life cost, reliability and safety presents unique challenges. Air Traffic Control systems require high availability, the up most safety standards and for a long term investment - long term support, all of this needs to be achieved within increasingly challenging financial constraints.
Cobham understand these challenges and have always innovated. 15 Years ago Cobham introduced a Radar Display platform based on readily available COTS items - a decision that changed the market and laid the foundation for continued success. In the present day Cobham offer ATC equipment provision as a service offering - providing an Air Traffic Control surveillance capability with no capital outlay at an agreed service level.
To maintain service levels our customers require a highly available surveillance picture and therefore rely on Cobham's robust ATC architecture to provide that availability. With millions of operational hours gained each year, the architecture is well proven and complemented by on site spares that can be operational immediately. Combined with a software platform that is not dependant on third party middleware our systems have remained immune to complete outages.
In addition the architecture allows for incremental growth from a single operator to multiple sectors with flight planning, electronic flight strips and safety nets. New sensor technologies such as Mode-S, Multilateration and ADS-B are supported through additional modules that extend the core system.
The flexibility of this architecture is even more apparent when you consider it in the context of its theatres of operation. A military air traffic controller could be operating within the comforts of the UK one day then at sea the next. They could be controlling aircraft from a remote island one day then in the heart of a conflict next. The need to rapidly deploy our systems around the globe, from a fixed based to a moving location are accomplished thanks to unique services and capabilities of Cobham.
To install and support equipment across a large number of locations, each with their own legacy issues and constraints, Cobham have been able to adapt the hardware solution for each individual case. Not only can we undertake specific customisations of the software but we are also proud of our capacity for designing, developing and testing our own bespoke electronic or mechanical solutions. The biggest pay off for this capacity is in reuse of existing customer furnished assets avoiding the need for expensive and long refits.
Cobham is a flexible and innovative partner well placed to meet and exceed the evolving demands of Air Traffic Management.
