Russian media and Swiss students laud Dubai

Dubai's attractions as a tourist destination will be aired to 50 million viewers across Russia following the successful completion of familiarization visit of Russia's RTR TV channel.
DTCM Manager Missions, Hamad bin Mejren said that the four-member crew were in Dubai to produce two features on the emirate and its tourism incentives and activities. "The two, 12 minute serials will be on how Dubai's present state-of the art infrastructue has preserved it glorious past and on Dubai-the shopping centre of the Universe. This will be broadcast in the 'Around the World' programme, the second most popular TV programme on travel and tourism in Russia," said Mr. bin Mejren.
Mr. bin Mejren said that during the shooting, Dubai's touristic sites and activities were explored extensively: "Through media, we can market Dubai right up to people's door step. Dubai has fabulous tourist sites with lots of happenings and media can help us reach people by making them aware of year round activities in this part of the world".
The first feature on the emirate will be broadcast some time in the middle of April 2003.
He also said that briefing and interacting with Swiss students and detailing them at length the tourism business in Dubai, made us share with them even the minuscule details about the emirate. "The visiting students were studying tourism and wanted to gather up to date information about every aspect of it. We gave them extensive briefing, which will help them to understand and appreciate the importance of tourism to the country's economy," said Mr. bin Mejren.
Inviting foreign media to cover the new and tourist places of the emirate is an important part of the DTCM's strategy. The aim is to create awareness among the people and in turn, help boosting inbound tourism.
The Russian crew as well as Swiss students were given a detailed presentation on Dubai and were supplemented with brochures and statistics on the emirate.
