The inaugural flight, OS853, touched down at Queen Alia International Airport shortly after 3:00pm to a warm Jordanian welcome from ground staff of Austrian Airlines and Airport International Group (AIG).

The Austrian national flag carrier announced their decision to serve the two capital cities last October, following talks with AIG at the World Route Conference in Kuala Lumpur. The new Austrian service will connect Vienna and Amman three times weekly, with flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday.

When asked about their new signature front-of-cabin service, Austrian Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Dr. Andreas Bierwirth stated:
"Business Class passengers travelling on the Vienna-Amman route will encounter the exclusive travel experience of Austrian's "Premium Service" which is specially designed to address all the senses. Austrian hospitality and Oriental flair, new seats with improved standards of comfort, a wide-ranging entertainment programme and culinary delicacies will shut out the strains of the everyday business routine."

Curtis Grad, Chief Executive Officer of Airport International Group, operators and investors in the redevelopment of Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman added "We are very encouraged by Austrian's choice to include Amman in its Middle East strategy, as it firmly reinforces our strategic vision to develop QAIA as a "niche hub" and airport of choice in the region, building strong global connections for Jordan and adding further depth to our growing route network."

The rehabilitation and expansion works at QAIA are well underway with the new passenger terminal extending over 85,000 square meters. AIG, under the terms of a 25-year concession agreement with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is responsible for the operation of the airport, the rehabilitation of existing facilities and the construction of the new terminal.

AIG is a Jordanian company with private shareholding by Abu Dhabi Investment Company (UAE), Noor Financial Investment Company (Kuwait), Edgo Group (Jordan), Joannou & Paraskevaides (Overseas) Limited (Cyprus), J&P-Avax (Greece) and Aéroports de Paris Management (France).
