Over 90% of Dubai Women's College students are committed to fasten their seat belts while driving.

This was the outcome of DWC and Dubai police Traffic Department's campaign which is held this week under the slogan "Your Safety is in Your Seat Belt".

Major Mohammed Bin Eid, head of the traffic police events department, and Inspectors Yacoub Al-Ansari and Hamdan Muhairi along with DWC paramedic students spread awareness among the students through monitoring their abidance of traffic rules when entering the gate of DWC campus.

The one-week campaign aims to reap the fruits of the Seat Belt Awareness Week which was held at the college last march to spread awareness among DWC students on the importance of abiding by traffic rules and fastening seat belts. Inspector Yacoub Al-Ansari from Dubai Traffic Department indicated that successive seat belt awareness campaigns held at the college has positive outcome.

"The results of the one-week current campaign shows that over 90% of college students are committed on fastening seat belts which indicates that paramedic students has tremendously done a good job of raising awareness among students," he added.

Dr. Howard Reed, Director of Dubai Women's College said that DWC is keen to protect its students' lives and teach them the importance of using seat belts.

Reed added:
"We are proud to hold such awareness campaign in cooperation with Dubai Traffic Police Department at our campus. We believe that the adherence to fastening seat belts will reduce traffic accidents, traffic violations and fines, and will save the lives of hundreds of youngsters."


Mr. Khalid Al Balushi, paramedic student at the college, stressed on the importance of the role played by the paramedic students.

He said, "Speaking on mobile phones, not using seat belts, tinted car windows among others violations are actually turning out to be fatal. Dubai Police are warning our students against this, and they will start fining them if they failed to abide by the rules."

"For the last three days, we've been only warning and spreading awareness among students who failed to abide by the traffic rules including using seatbelts. Starting from tomorrow, we will fine those will violate the rules," Al-Ansari concluded.
