The Symmetrix DMX (Direct Matrix) architecture advances several steps further from conventional bus and switch architectures through the use of direct, dedicated input/output paths within the array, while providing a clear roadmap to future enhancements.

"The new Symmetric DMX series delivers industry's highest value in data bandwidth, processing power and connectivity," said Dirk de Waegeneire, Vice President of International Sales, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "This enhances high-end storage performance, availability and functionality. Additionally it offers improved economics because the high-end functionality spreads across more of its infrastructures and delivers greater business value through consolidation, performance, improved service levels and faster time-to-market."

The Symmetric DMX effectively beats challenges associated with high-end storage, such as increasing service level demands, higher workloads due to advances in server technology and spiralling costs.

"When combined with FSC's Primepower XA servers, the Symmetric DMX provides users with world leading hyper consolidation solution," said de Waegeneire. "The unparalleled server and storage configurations offer complete solutions from design to implementation at a one-stop shop. Today's business critical computing needs require both high-end storage and high-end computing with utmost levels of automation and manageability. With the launch of the Symmetric DMX, we are offering outstanding new products that enhance enterprise performance and business value by maintaining premier service levels."

Three models in the Symmetric DMX Series have been introduced, with one of the three packaging options.

Symmetric DMX800, the world's first rack-mount high-end storage system, scales from 8 to 16 front-end ports, from 1.2 - 17.5 terabytes raw capacity and from 4 to 32 gigabytes of global cache for FibreChannel attachment.

Symmetric DMX 1000, a single-bay integrated system, scales from 8 to 48 front-end ports, from 3.5 - 21 terabytes raw capacity, and from 4 to 64 gigabytes of global cache for mainframe and open systems environments.

Symmetrix DMX2000, a dual-bay integrated system, scales from 8 to 96 front-end ports, from 7 - 42 terabytes raw capacity and from 8 to 128 gigabytes of global cache for mainframe and open systems environments.
